The emergency department at Mission Memorial Hospital is closed after extremely cold weather caused pipes to burst, flooding out the unit.
Fraser Health announced the diversion Saturday night and said the ER would be shut indefinitely as the damage is assessed.
Anyone experiencing a medical emergency should either call 911 or head to another Fraser Health facility.
Patients can go instead to Ridge Meadows Hospital, 11666 Laity St. in Maple Ridge; Abbotsford Regional Hospital, at 32900 Marshall Rd.; Langley Memorial Hospital, 22051 Fraser Hwy. in the Township of Langley; or Chilliwack General Hospital, 45600 Menholm Rd.
Fraser Health will update the community when more information is available about what repairs are needed and when the emergency department can safely reopen.
The rest of Mission Memorial remains in operation.
“We thank our staff and medical staff for their support in caring for our patients during this unanticipated event,” said Fraser Health in a statement.
